Roman Zaslavsky
Born in Saint Petersburg, Israeli pianist Roman Zaslavsky gained widespread acclaim after winning the first prize at the José Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia, Spain, in 2000. He subsequently embarked on an international performance career across Europe, Israel, Japan, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
In recent years, his performances have extended to various locations in Taiwan and China, including the National Concert Hall in Taipei, the Beijing Concert Hall, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Zaslavsky's accolades also include the Vendome Prize at the Cologne International Piano Competition in Germany (the only winner that year) and a silver medal at the 3rd Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.
Zaslavsky is a prominent figure in the realm of piano technique. During his studies at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, he was mentored by Igor Lebedev and the renowned Russian master Naum Shtarkman, laying a solid musical foundation. In 1991, he moved to Israel with his family and later settled in Germany.
Zaslavsky has collaborated with conductor Gianandrea Noseda and the London Symphony Orchestra for his German debut, and he frequently works with conductors such as Michail Jurowski, Lászlo Kovács, Constantin Trinks, Ligia Amadio, and Ruben Gazarian, performing throughout Spain, Italy, Germany, and South America. In 2017, he was appointed a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. Zaslavsky has held concerts in world-renowned venues, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Munich Philharmonie, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw, Zurich Tonhalle, Valencia Palau de la Música, Madrid Auditorio Nacional de Música, Paris Salle Gavea, Tokyo Oji Hall, Sapporo Kitara Hall, Rio de Janeiro Sala Cecilia Meireles, São Paulo Sala Sao Paolo, and the Jerusalem Theatre, all of which received high praise from both audiences and music critics.
The Scottish Herald reported that Zaslavsky's performances are impressive, praising his "excellent touch and brilliance," as well as being "passionate and expressive." The British magazine Strad lauded him as "an outstanding pianist," while the Canadian Toronto Star described his performance as "fantastic!" The German Baden News referred to him as "a masterful king of the keyboard."
Zaslavsky's recordings are released by EuroArts. In 2012, he released his first album, "Ingenious Opposites Vol. 1," featuring works by Schumann and Liszt, recorded in pure audio Blu-ray format. This album won the Supersonic Award from Luxembourg's Pizzicato Classical Magazine the following year. In November of the same year, he released "Ingenious Opposites Vol. 2," which includes pieces by Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev. This repertoire was also released on DVD in June 2016. His live performance album featuring works by Schumann and Liszt was released on DVD in 2017. Zaslavsky's new album, featuring works by Schumann and Brahms, is set to be released by DECCA Classics in 2020.
