ABOUT

"Learning music is a journey. Even if one day it doesn't become your profession, the ability to appreciate it will remain a precious gift that accompanies you throughout life."

Russian piano educator Nikolai Nagauz once said, "The first concern of every pianist should be the training of sound." Establishing students' aesthetic appreciation for piano sound and tone color, helping them understand how to produce beautiful tones on the piano and how to use their bodies correctly and effectively, is the core value and goal of Teacher Lai's teaching. Students, from beginners to those at a professional level, can receive the most professional and detailed guidance in this area.

The process of learning music is essentially about developing problem-solving skills. From a piece of sheet music, the performer must understand the composer's intentions, use their body and imagination to transform the score into music, and ultimately perform comfortably on stage. This requires extensive knowledge and solid training. The teacher's role is to inspire and accompany students, guiding them step by step until they can learn and understand works independently.

Teacher Lai specializes in helping students establish a solid foundation in playing and music, preparing them for various competitions and assessments. With years of teaching and competition experience, she can quickly identify methods to assist students, and for those planning to study abroad, she offers bilingual instruction.

Pianist Lai Zhirong, who studied in the UK, is one of the outstanding young talents from Taiwan, having had numerous performance opportunities both domestically and internationally, receiving wide acclaim. He won third prize at the Windsor International Piano Competition in the UK and first prize at the Haydn Piano Competition in Vienna. He obtained an Artist Diploma from the Royal College of Music, studying under Ilya Kondratiev and Sofya Gulyak, and graduated with Distinction in his master's degree from the same institution.

From a young age, Zhirong displayed exceptional musical talent, winning second place in the national music competition under the guidance of Teacher Zhang Yashun in high school, and he was admitted to Taipei University of the Arts with high scores. He then studied under the esteemed Taiwanese pianist Professor Rolf-Peter Wille, deepening his understanding of German and Austrian music and the enlightenment of musical thought. During his university years, he participated in many collaborative piano performances and received recognition, collaborating with the school's string orchestra and bassoonist Rie Koyama.

After university, he lived in Austria for further studies, where he was guided by pianist Shen Yulin. Under her mentorship, he developed a strict pursuit of music and tone quality. He also received careful guidance from Professor Weng Huihui at the Bruckner Conservatory. Throughout his piano career, he has benefited from the insights of many masters, including Thai-Son Dang, winner of the 10th Chopin Competition, as well as Maria João Pires, Robert Levin, and Dominique Merlet.
