“The Forgotten Arias”
Luo Xinru & Yang Yin-bin Lecture Concert

12/01/2019 14:30

Debussy was not new to collaborating with the poet Paul Verlaine. His early piano masterpiece “Clair de Lune” was inspired by Verlaine's poetry. This collection of songs for soprano and piano, “The Forgotten Arias,” is drawn from Verlaine's Romances sans paroles (Songs Without Words).

The rhythmic beauty of Verlaine's words and the profound symbolism behind them blend with Debussy's unique musical syntax and ethereal harmonies, enchanting listeners to escape reality and fall into another unfathomable world. At first, it may sound unfamiliar, but the more one listens, the more one becomes captivated.

What seems to be a distant French Symbolist poetry collection and music becomes remarkably close when one opens their heart, as the lyrics and melodies forever offer the artist's most intimate and sincere expressions.

  • Piano & Lecture: Yang Yin-bin

“Beethoven: Heaven and Hell”
Piano Sonata No. 31
Lecture Concert by Yang Yin-bin

Beethoven was destined to have little connection with the words "easygoing" and "carefree." Born in a tumultuous era, he was beaten by his alcoholic father throughout his childhood, rejected in his marriage proposals, and ultimately lost his hearing—the very sense that sustained his livelihood as a musician. Such a tragic story, can you believe it??? Yet, he never became pessimistic or disillusioned with the world. His music always conveyed a powerful belief and goodness.

The music he expressed was not just for the people of the 19th century, but for all humanity; he composed with his life and recorded the deepest forces of human existence through his works.
