Photo Recap
The “Music Gallery: Sound & Image – Piano Recital by Yun-Yang Li” concluded successfully!
For this event, we transformed the Debussy Music Art Center into an exhibition space, with every element—from the program selection to the on-site installations—centered around the theme of an “exhibition.”
In terms of repertoire, Professor Li selected pieces associated with visual art. Inspired by the promenade theme in Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, the first half featured Rachmaninoff’s Études-Tableaux, presented as a musical “stroll” through an art gallery, allowing the audience to experience the sensation of walking through an exhibition, listening to music while admiring paintings.
The second half showcased Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, guiding the audience through the works of painter Viktor Hartmann.
The performance space was adorned with physical artworks and white gauze screens. Projections were used to blend visuals seamlessly into the performance. As Professor Li’s melodies flowed from the piano, the stage visuals danced in harmony, creating a multisensory experience that combined auditory and visual enjoyment.
Professor Li dedicated significant effort to the visual aspects of the performance, meticulously discussing image selection and special effects with the team. His passion for perfection deeply inspired us, making this collaboration both educational and delightful.
The accompanying masterclass further showcased Professor Li’s professionalism and enthusiasm for teaching. He employed various metaphors and descriptions to reinforce concepts, offering students diverse perspectives and patiently working with them until they achieved understanding. Even after the scheduled sessions, he expressed a desire to hear students perform different pieces, providing additional guidance—a testament to his dedication to nurturing talent and his boundless passion for music education.
Collaborating with Professor Li on this concert and masterclass series was a truly rewarding experience. Beyond gaining deeper insights into his artistic vision, we were continually moved by his professionalism and commitment. We hope to share this joy with you, our readers.
We will continue to host high-quality classical music performances and events, and we look forward to seeing you at future gatherings.
