Yi-Chang Liang
ABOUT
Music is a language that records life and emotion, allowing us to see our true selves and resonate with the souls of others.
Yi-Chang specializes in recorder repertoire from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, as well as contemporary works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Having studied abroad in the Netherlands and Switzerland for many years, he has accumulated extensive experience in international performances, chamber music, and early music ensembles, helping students master the performance styles and musical interpretation of different periods. His teaching emphasizes solid fundamentals — from finger technique, breathing, and breath control to articulation and tonguing variation — building a natural and richly layered playing ability.
He believes that the recorder is not just about playing notes, but a language for expressing emotion, and hopes to accompany students in finding their own voice, so that music becomes an important part of life.
EXPERIENCE

2011: Won Second Prize at the Moeck/SRP International Recorder Solo Competition (UK) — the only Chinese musician to have received an award in this competition since its founding in 1985

2012–2016: Member of The Royal Wind Music (Netherlands), touring at major music festivals across Europe and the United States, and participating in album releases as well as television and radio recordings

2018: Awarded the Eduard Tschumi Musikpreis (Bern, Switzerland)

2018: Won First Prize at the 19th Biagio Marini International Chamber Music Competition (Germany), and Third Prize and the Young Audience Award at the International Van Wassenaer Competition, Utrecht Early Music Festival (Netherlands), with IJ SPACE Ensemble

2020: Released debut solo album Francesco Mancini: Six Recorder Sonatas (Claves Records, Switzerland)
